Are you with me?

Yet to find my style

When i get on the dance floor, i keep thinking what is my true style…is it hip hop, jazz or lyrical? Almost all my seniors have their distinct style. I thought to myself that if i could not get a style, at least i have to discover my forte.

A lot of people thinks that i’m a natural turner which i disagree totally. I turn purely base of stength and spotting. Although  the maximum number of pirouette turn i did was 8, it’s hard to improve or even maintain that numeral. So, turning is definitely not my forte. So i was thinking of learning krumping since there’s very little people in Singapore who can krump. Who knows? Krumping might be my forte. LOL.

I was so amazed when i watched RIZE. Get the facts right people…krumping is not about shaking your bootay and vibrate your entire body. It’s an aggressive dance form and is intended as an expression of anger or a release of pent-up emotion from the struggles of life through violent, exaggerated, and dramatic moves. Anyway…when i watched the video, i didn’t know that there’s a genre of dance called Clowning! What is that??? Clowning is like as the name discripes, they dance for sheer fun and do stuff krumpers dont do like humping on other people and stuff and they do it to benefit others. Krumping is similar but pure dancing.

Actually, i need to learn as many genre of dance. The weirder it sounds, the more opportunity i have in dancing business since not many people learnt about it. Like casino, bachata [only ballroom people knows], african jazz, ethnic fusion, etc. Perhaps, i might find my true style after trying as many dance genre. Actually, whenever i do a choreography i tend to fuse it with other genre. Like when i choreo reggae, i had a few battements kicks inserted in the dance. Maybe when it comes to choreography i already have my style. Perhaps what i lack is forte.

Everyone can turn 8 times effortlessly. Either i have to keep practising my pirouette turn, or i need to work on other techniques soon.

Aisha and Anjana would probably have the same reaction. WHY KEEP TALKING ABOUT DANCE? haha! Sorry! It’s just that i get busy sometimes when it comes to dancing! LOL. I’m actually hoping for a role for SA production and club crawl. If i’m not given the opportunity to act… i might lose interest in it. Touch WOOD! NEVER! haha.

Oh well…this is such a random post.

Upcoming Performances…

So Danceworks just ended…it felt like few days ago though it’s already been a week. I was really eyeing for the top prize but the competitors were really strong…freakzy nuts, beyond roses…allegro…flair nation etc. With pajamas, underneath it a black & white outfit and the striking make-up, it made our team stands out. Although it may seemed a little rediculous to dance in PJs, we made the whole item looked flawless for the first part. As soon as we stripped, it brought another new style in  our dance. From contemporary hip hop, to gangsta hip hop with jazz fusion. Then we went modern and hip hop. For the last part, we dance street jazz. I strongly believe our team was the most versatile. Perhaps the downfall is the storyline and the obvious individual styling. Other than that, i thought our team did great. Apart form that, I was disappointed at the judges decision because 3 teams who made it in the final have similar styling. I expected syakira’s group to get it because of their unique concept. Well, It’s just melvin and sharon. They are latin dancers and the most important thing from their point of view is neatness.

I just performed 3 shows under fantastic 4, fantastic crew. The last one is this sunday…finally! The third one was terrible yet better. I did the steps correctly and on time…because previously i had trouble counting since the choreography was taught 1 day before the show. The terrible part was…i bumped into Abang iwan when we did our free-styling. That was my greatest nightmare on stage…when cock-ups happen. And i almost hit Hakim. Tsk tsk…that’s the first time that had happen to me on stage. Still… i’m relived because we covered it up pretty well.

Next peformance is for SCL [my previous school in NYP]. I’m very nervous for this one. Not because of the dancing steps…but because i’ll be meeting with all my ex-lecturers. So sad. A few of them were really great lecturers but since i decided to pursue my interest, i transfer to another school. I’m thankful that my application is successful and i’ll be joining with the new batch this April. haha. Anyway Zelia and I just taught the other SA dancers our ‘toy soldier’ choreo. I’m amazed at how fast they can catch the steps. Sad to say…not everyone is as fast. It’s okay guys! Practice hard and it’ll b part of your muscle memory.

After SCL day will be Club CRAWL! Finally.. haha. I’m still disappointed that the danceworks choreo is not used for club crawl. Oh well..i hope it turns out well. I can’t wait to get the new batch of dancers and drama members. Hmm… will there be any look-a-like? LOL. I’m hoping for potential ones. Even if they’re good but their attitude suck, it drains their opportunity.

Right now i have few sets of choreography in my mind. The time is Now [contemporary hip hop], Torture [krumping], life [reggae], one last dance [lyrical jazz], and why should i be sad [r n b].

I was pretty disappointed when my first choreo ‘cry me a river’ was not even used although the piece is pretty promising. Perhaps it’s not good enough. I need to keep striving…learn from the hardworking chinese dancers and not be as complacent as those mat breakers. Seriously, the japanese and filipinos are better than them. Oh i remembered Zee told me something random. Break dancers are nothing compared to gymnastics athelete. They can flip in the air and still flipping. And their flexibility is dope. Hmm…perhaps to most dancers…their flexibility is a little too freaky. haha. To them, an over split on air is nothing. haha. so random.

Anyway, i was utterly sad when i declined Adam’s offer to perform at Sentosa for some event. Mainly because the rehearsal is only a day [2 hours maximum] and i’m expected to learn the whole song…which i’m really not capable of doing that [still working on those pills...haha]. And i didn’t go for the instructors course. It’s all because of my lost phone because they could not contact me to confirm about the course. Perhaps this week is a ’suay’ week. A lot of of unpleasant things happened.

Alright…will update soon about more future events [hopefully] that you guys can come and support. Roger and out! lololol.
